Karen Palmer
Instructional Designer and eLearning Developer based in the Philadelphia Tri-State Area
Hi, I'm Karen!
I recently transitioned from being a research professional with over 10 years of experience to an instructional designer and eLearning developer. There are two main reasons why:
I have a love for learning and a passion for helping people succeed.
The field of instructional design incorporates the tasks from my previous career that I enjoyed most, including training and facilitation, collaboration, project management and strategic planning.
Collaborating with subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders from departments of Cardiology, Physics, Surgical Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, and Pathology
Implementing a mock patient training exercise for a Radiology clinical trial using a PET scanner
Employee training and development can lead to a more efficient, effective, and innovative workforce, which can help businesses achieve their goals and succeed in the marketplace. As an emotionally intelligent problem solver, I especially enjoy working with business owners and subject matter experts to design training solutions.
I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in biology and a Learning Designer Certificate from IDOL courses Academy (IDOL: instructional design and online learning.)
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family and working on creative projects.
I am a fiber artist and enjoy creating textiles and decorative pieces. I was first introduced to cardboard weaving by my 3rd grade teacher and, through self-teaching, have learned many other techniques over the years including latch hooking, needlepoint, and macrame.
One of my favorite things to do is create macrame clothing, such as the top that I made in the video below. Creating original patterns on the mannequin allows me to express my creativity, my love for fashion, and it helps to strengthen my patience and attention to detail.
